Venus to Mars II is part of the Pop Movements series, which delves into the dynamic intersection of geometry, color, and rhythm to unlock the keys to our enchanting realm. Through experimentation with raw canvas, I explore the intricate relationship between color and form, creating a multidimensional surface that invites both the artist and the viewer to interact with the work in a deeper way.
In Venus to Mars II, the blue orb at the center represents Venus, symbolizing beauty, grace, and feminine energy. Mars, on the other hand, is embodied by the bold red rectangular bar, a dynamic contrast that evokes strength, passion, and masculinity. A black staff, stretching from the bottom to the top, forms the “stairway to heaven,” acting as a visual and symbolic path between these two celestial bodies, guiding the viewer from the earthly realm to the spiritual heights where Venus and Mars reside.
The interplay of shapes, lines, and colors in this piece reflects the unity of natural and spiritual forces—bringing together the feminine and masculine, the earthly and the ethereal. The “stairway to heaven” serves as a metaphor for transcendence, offering a route to a higher state of being where opposites harmonize, and the duality of existence is reconciled. The painting speaks to the cosmic balance and connection between art and life, inviting the viewer to reflect on the energies that shape our inner and outer worlds.
Venus to Mars II was completed in the winter of 2022 at the artist’s studio in Soho, New York.
