A contemporary painter born and raised in New York, Stella Michaels has been described as a channel between the past and the future, a medium connecting people to paintings. She holds a BFA from New York University, where she explored both the visual and performing arts, blending sound and vision to amplify her unique operatic approach to painting.
“Art is a deeply personal experience. To create relevance, we must enhance the tools within us—those capable of producing a multi-sensory vision that transcends sight, incorporating sound, touch, taste, and even smell. This infusion of reality creates a timeless quality, drawing you in beyond the visual, where the true experience begins.”
Working from various studios in New York, Michaels first showcased her work in a mobile pop-up gallery, selling pieces on Madison Avenue at the Mark and Carlyle Hotels, as well as in the Meatpacking District at The Standard Hotel. Her work has garnered widespread success, with collectors from around the globe embracing her dynamic style. Best known for her blend of abstract and pop-edge sensibilities, Michaels brings a signature rock ’n roll swagger to her paintings. She balances spontaneity and precision in equal measure, creating works that fuse sound and vision. Her paintings are like cliff notes to choreographed dances—raw, vibrant, and alive. Through mediums such as enamels, metals, acrylics, and paper appliqués, she creates a symphony of visual rhythms and sounds that shift from ambient to power-pop, giving each piece a resonance that extends far beyond the canvas.
